Enrol in topics

You’re almost there. You’ve nearly finished your onboarding at Flinders! Now it's time to enrol in topics and register for classes in the Student System. 

Before continuing, check that you have:

tick

read your course rule  

reviewed your study planner  

applied for credit for previous study and/or work experience (if applicable).

Part 1: Enrol in topics

Enrolment varies from course to course. Some courses will automatically select topics for you. Other courses may require you to choose topics from a list in the Student System. 

If you need to choose your topics, watch the video How to manage my course for step-by-step instructions. 

Follow the steps below to start enrolling. 

Tip: Have your course rule and study planner with you when you go to enrol. 

Courses may be made up of core, elective and option topics. You should refer to your course rule in Handbook for details about which topics to enrol in. You should also refer to your study planner, which will include the core topics you must complete and, if applicable, sections for electives and option topics topics.

There are several ways to enrol in topics in the Plan and enrol screen. 
 
Option A
 
  1. Click Plan a study period.
  2. Select Year and Study Period in the drop-downs. 
  3. A list of available topics will appear. 
  4. Click View to see your topic information.
  5. Select the check box you wish to add. 
  6. Click Finish.
  7. Your topics will appear under the study period you have chosen. 
  8. Click Enrol to complete your enrolment. 

Option B

  1. In the Unscheduled column, click Schedule on a topic.
  2. Select the Year and Study Period.
  3. Click OK. 
  4. Use the Add or Remove button to move topics in and out of a study period.
  5. Click Enrol to complete your enrolment. 

Option C

  1. In the Unscheduled column, drag a topic into the relevant study period.
  2. Click Enrol to complete your enrolment. 

Important notes: 

  • the requisite labels indicate what's required before you can enrol in the topic
  • if a topic is not available, the warning No Study Combination will display
  • use your Study Planner to guide the topic sequencing of your studies 
  • when adding a topic, double-check the topic information to make sure it is available for your selected study period
  • we recommend you enrol for the full academic year to secure your spot in topics, you can withdraw later if needed.

Troubleshooting enrolment 

Part 2: View your topic materials in Flinders Learning Online (FLO)

Your topic materials are delivered through Flinders Learning Online (FLO). Access to your enrolled topics in FLO is made available to you one week before teaching begins. 

We recommend you visit each of your topic pages and get familiar with the layout and specific details to ensure you can hit the ground running when you start your studies!

The appearance of your topics may vary, however your topic coordinator and FLO Student Support can assist you further. Each FLO topic page will include information specific to your topic. This includes:

  • assignment guidelines
  • assignment submissions
  • quizzes
  • forums
  • assignment grades and feedback (final topic grades will be available to view via Compass, following the relevant topic results date).

Go to the 'My course' section of Compass to access your topic FLO page.

I can't find a topic to enrol into. keyboard_arrow_up

If you can't enrol in the Student System, please check that:

  • you’ve accepted your offer in Offers via My Applications 
  • you’ve completed the pre-enrolment tasks in My Tasks
  • the topic is being offered in the relevant study period/attendance mode
  • you've met the topic requisites.

If you believe you have grounds to request a prerequisite waiver or, if you need additional assistance, please submit an Ask Flinders request.
