If you’re away from home this summer, wanting to make new friends or looking for something to do, participating in events and activities is a great way to meet new people, build your skills, have fun and celebrate the achievements of the academic year just gone.
This page is your one-stop-shop for all the events and activities happening at Flinders and across Adelaide during the summer. We have compiled the events for you, so all you have to do is enjoy!
To help you make the most of the summer, we asked our alumni to suggest fun, free (or cheap) activities, and locations to visit across South Australia and compiled their suggestions for you!
Many of our graduates also now run local businesses and have generously offered to provide any current Flinders' students with discounts on products and services.
In addition to the program of events happening at Flinders University, there is loads going on around South Australia to help you make the most of your summer!
We have compiled a list of events for you below - many of these events are FREE and family friendly too.

From December until February Study Adelaide is running a Summer in Adelaide program of events and activities for international University students. The best part - many are FREE!
Join the international student Summer Hub and drop into your local community centre to meet, try a program, talk with locals and try some activities during the summer holidays.
The City of Adelaide organisation is running a number of events for you to join. Visit their website for more information.
Join the Adelaide Festival Centre for a series of free events exclusive to students.
Based at UniSA’s Mawson Lakes Campus, just 16km from Adelaide CBD, the Planetarium offers visitors the unique opportunity to stargaze without having to brave the elements.
Located a short drive from the Flinders University Bedford Park campus, the City of Marion council offers a wide variety of social, professional development and wellbeing events at their Community Hubs across the Marion area, as well as online.
Start at the Gallery is an exciting introduction to art for children aged 3-12 and their families. Held on the first Sunday of every month, Start is a free family-fun day and includes art activities, tours, live performances and entertainment.
Visit one of South Australia’s most significant cultural tourism attractions, Carrick Hill. The estate comprises a major heritage building, art collections and approximately 40 hectares of land. Join a free tours of the formal gardens at 10.30am each Friday.
Walking is a great way to be physically active and you can do it virtually anywhere with just a comfortable pair of shoes. It’s also FREE! The Walking SA website has information about more than 700 places to walk, hike or bushwalk across South Australia.
The Botanic Gardens comprises three beautiful public gardens: Adelaide Botanic Garden (and Botanic Park), Mount Lofty Botanic Garden and Wittunga Botanic Garden. Take a leisurely stroll around the gardens or attend an event.
KIDDO have created a quick look guide to Adelaide’s best playgrounds in the North, South, East and West. They provide a snapshot of what they look like and where they are, so you can explore them yourself!
The summer break is a good time to learn more about the campus facilities and support services available to you, to brush up on your academic skills and to progress your professional development.
