Ping! Edition 4 - 27th March 2019

Uni life Ping! 2019 Ping! Edition 4 - 27th March 2019

Dear Student,

Ping! is your news from Flinders University in the one email, every week of semester. In this edition:
  • Drop In Not Out - for free food, support and advice
  • What the census date means
  • Your questions answered by the Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (students)
  • See a physio for $10
  • Flinders lunchtime concerts return
  • Have your say about FLO
  • Help shape a new degree in Creative Arts; and more!

Drop in for free food, support and advice tomorrow

Sometimes the pressures of study, finances and other areas of life can become stressful. Attend the Drop In Not Out event tomorrow in the Bedford Park Plaza, to grab a free hot dog and speak with Flinders staff about the financial, administrative, academic and welfare support services the University provides to help you manage these pressures. If you can’t make it in person, email your questions to student.experience@flinders.edu.au

The Semester 1 census date is Friday 5 April

The census date is the last day you can withdraw from topics without incurring student contribution amounts (for Commonwealth supported students), tuition fees (for fee-paying students) and student services and amenities fees. If you withdraw from any Semester 1 topics after next Friday, you will still be charged the relevant course fees and the course(s) will be recorded on your academic record.

If you're feeling unsure about continuing your study, whether you’re in the right course, or if you are experiencing personal or financial difficulties, consider accessing
support or advice, prior to making any decisions about withdrawing. You can attend the Drop In Not Out event tomorrow or email your questions to student.experience@flinders.edu.au

Your questions answered

Ever wanted to ask the Vice-Chancellor or Deputy Vice-Chancellor (students) a question about an issue that is important to you? Students had the opportunity to ask their questions at the Student Town Hall forum on Wednesday 13 March. A video of the forum along with a full summary of answers to questions asked online and face-to-face is available on the current students’ website.

Flinders lunchtime concerts return – all welcome

The Flinders Lunchtime Concerts are returning in 2019! First up, hear from pianist Mekhla Kumar: A prize-winning solo artist and chamber musician, in the Noel Stockdale Room in the Central Library (J9 map reference) on 3 April at 1.05pm. $5 entry donation.

$10 physio appointments

From next Monday, a new physiotherapy student clinic will open at Flinders University offering $10 appointments to staff, students and the broader community. The clinic will be staffed by students of the Master of Physiotherapy Program and supervised by expert Flinders University physiotherapy team staff. See our blog page for details about the clinic and how to make an appointment.

Interest free student loans

Are you experiencing financial difficulty? Students enrolled at Flinders can apply for a FUSA loan worth of up to $500 to help make financial ends meet. Repayments are $25 per fortnight and can be used for anything relevant to your study.  See FUSA’s financial advocacy page for more information about how the team can help you manage financial difficulties.

Improve mental health and wellbeing with free online program

In partnership with the SAHMRI Wellbeing and Resilience Centre, EPSW is providing students access to an interactive wellbeing and resilience resource called Complete Mental Health. Through this free web-based resource, you can access personalised tips and techniques to build and improve your mental health and wellbeing. (All collected personal information and responses will be de-identified and is completely confidential). Keep an eye on your Flinders student email tomorrow for a link to the program.

Kick start your career with the Flinders Joblink Summit

If you’re studying education and want to meet employers, with jobs available, then attend the Teaching and Education Joblink Summit at Flinders on Tuesday 16 April. The Summits are a great way to network with employers from a range of companies and make valuable industry connections.

The students will share their experience at Flinders University and how they used the University support services to help them succeed, allowing time for you to ask any questions. For more information see the Facebook event.
