Course aims

This minor aims to:

• Develop knowledge and understanding in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
• Develop confidence to plan and assess Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics learning activities and resource selection and curation for the Australian Curriculum.

Learning outcomes

At the completion of the minor students will be able to:

• Develop knowledge of, and skills in, curriculum particularly related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics with a focus on the Primary Years R-7
• Achieve the knowledge and understanding that different disciplines provide and also work across disciplinary boundaries to actively create cross-curriculum links
• Develop the metacognitive skills to engage critically in the complex thinking required in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics learning and teaching.

Program of study

Students undertaking a minor in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Teaching will complete 18 units of study as detailed below.

Core - Year 1 topics

4.5 units comprising:

INNO1001 Innovative and Creative Thinking: Recognising Opportunities (4.5 units)

Core - Year 2 topics

4.5 units comprising:

EDUC2203 Digital Technologies Curriculum Studies (4.5 units)

Option - Year 2 topics

Plus 4.5 units from:

COMP1001 Fundamentals of Computing (4.5 units)
STAT1121 Data Science (4.5 units)

Core - Year 3 topics

4.5 units comprising:

EDUC3001 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education (4.5 units)
