Topic description
In this topic students commence their studio specialisation, and choose the studio in which they will continue their sequence of studio practice. This may be the studio undertaken in VISA1003, or a different one may be selected.

Students will develop the application of media and techniques in their studio practice. Additionally, students will explore how this field developed historically, and its interconnection with other areas of the visual arts, alongside developing practical and creative skills in their chosen studio area.
Educational aims
This topic aims to provide students with the opportunity to:

  • develop their skills in one studio area
  • explore a range of concepts and techniques in that studio
  • explore how works in their chosen studio have developed historically, and how this development has influenced contemporary practice
  • develop an understanding of the creative process, including the documentation of the development of creative work
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • produce creative works in their chosen studio through experimentation with concepts and processes
  • critically evaluate and discuss artists and artworks related to their studio area
  • document and research historical processes and influences in that studio
  • reflect on their own creative development
  • demonstrate safe practice and relevant WH&S procedures
