Topic description
VFX Histories and Theories will provide students with an understanding of historical innovation in the feature film VFX industry. Students will theoretically analyse segments of movies which have used VFX and research and report on the industry techniques used.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • Provide a theoretical and historical introduction to the use of VFX in the film industry

  • Introduce students to a range of VFX techniques used in the film industry

  • Develop students’ ability to analyse critically VFX techniques in the film industry
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able:

  • explain the role of VFX in the film industry over time, including the analysis of films whose use of technology has influenced the industry

  • theoretically analyse VFX segments from historically significant VFX movies

  • communicate their understanding of VFX technical concepts and theories both verbally and in writing
