Topic description
This topic contextualises the role of the nurse within the professional practice setting and further develops the professional and interprofessional behaviours introduced in first year. It includes professional experience placement.
Educational aims
The aims of this topic are to:

  • develop fundamental clinical skills with a focus on communication, documentation, health service management processes & structures for the provision of quality, person-centred care across a variety of health-care settings

  • identify and use the structures and processes of clinical governance within the Professional Placement setting

  • develop the ability to communicate effectively within the healthcare team using a variety of media

  • develop strategies for professional self-care.

Expected learning outcomes
On successful completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • identify management of governance structures that are relevant for practice within health care organisations

  • utilise appropriate communication processes to promote collaboration in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of person centred care

  • identify and choose appropriate professional self-care strategies across a variety of settings

  • apply the nursing process to the care of people across a variety of settings

  • demonstrate an understanding level of the skills, knowledge and attitudes required in the NMBA Registered Nurse Standards.
