Topic description

Students will engage in sustained advanced research to produce a research proposal, as well as an extended research essay (dissertation) on an approved subject.

Educational aims

This topic aims to:

  • Provide students with an opportunity to engage in sustained and advanced research and writing
  • Enable students to provide evidence of the ability to collect and evaluate information; construct, test and defend an argument; and critically examine theories, legal principles, policy and literature in the area of academic enquiry
  • Prepare students for research higher degrees
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Demonstrate advanced research skills
  2. Demonstrate advanced capacity to analyse legal issues
  3. Demonstrate advanced understanding of the state of the academic literature and legal and/or policy considerations relating to your research topic
