This topic provides strategies for ethical decision making and for the teaching of ethics. It demonstrates how existing curriculum can be used as a vehicle for learning ethics and developing ethical analysis and judgment. In addition, it examines professional ethics as applied to teachers, leaders, and education policy makers. This topic will be of interest to students who wish to examine a selection of the following issues and related challenges: moral education, values education, curriculum development, organisational and management responsibilities, accountability, professional ethics.
The aim of the topic is:
that students acquire, consider and apply strategies for ethical decision making
that students acquire, consider and apply strategies for the teaching of ethics
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to demonstrate an:
understanding of ethical strategies and be able to apply them to issues and practices that arise in education, and
application of ethical strategies to curriculum or policy while justifying their application to their professional peers and other concerned parties
