The Master of Digital Production for Entertainment Design is offered by the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences in conjunction with CDW Studios. The course requires two years of full-time study.

The Master of Digital Production for Entertainment Design articulates with the Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma in Digital Production for Entertainment Design.

Admission requirements

Applicants must normally hold an approved degree or equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution. However the Dean (Education) may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, admit others who can show evidence of fitness for candidature.

In addition, applicants must submit an application form and portfolio, including examples of their creative work, for one or more of the positions in the creative team.

Course aims

The course provides a high quality postgraduate program that is designed specifically for the rapidly changing commercial world of visual effects and all areas of entertainment design. It is designed for students looking to develop a career in film, television, video games, advertising and all areas of digital content creation.

The course aims to equip students with:

  • advanced applied skills and technical and theoretical knowledge to meet current market demands and be at the forefront of the visual development process leading to the creation of new media products and new conceptual approaches;
  • high-level interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate professionally and successfully in a team-work situation with clients and colleagues;
  • the ability to independently carry out idea development, design and implementation of complex story and animation projects for film, games, television, advertising and various digital media platforms;
  • the knowledge and ability to develop all areas of intellectual property creation;
  • the knowledge, skills and methodology to undertake research into digital production projects and apply advanced techniques in digital production and entertainment design.

Learning outcomes 

Upon completion of the course graduates will be able to:

  • demonstrate an advanced knowledge of and proficiency in the use of relevant industry software and hardware used in the digital production pipeline;
  • demonstrate knowledge of recent industry trends and the ability to reflect critically on these trends and apply them to their own creative practice;
  • demonstrate advanced conceptual, technical and creative skills and the ability to apply cutting-edge techniques to the creation of new products and new conceptual approaches;
  • demonstrate high-level interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work as part of a creative team and liaise with clients;
  • identify and analyse complex creative and technical problems and apply problem solving and critical thinking skills to these issues;
  • independently plan and carry out idea development, design and the implementation of complex story and animation projects for film, games, television, advertising and various digital media platforms;
  • demonstrate advanced skills and knowledge of research principles and methods to undertake research into digital production projects and apply advanced techniques in digital production and entertainment design, culminating in a substantial research based film project;
  • demonstrate the ability to create their own intellectual property, including pre-production, production and post-production/marketing, resulting in the production of an animated/live action short film.

Credit

Students who have successfully completed the Graduate Certificate in Digital Production for Entertainment Design at Flinders University will be eligible to receive 18 units of credit upon entry into the Masters degree. Students who have successfully completed the Graduate Diploma in Digital Production for Entertainment Design or the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Honours) in Digital Media at Flinders University will be eligible to receive 36 units of credit upon entry into the Masters degree.

To qualify for the Master of Digital Production for Entertainment Design a student must complete 72 units with a grade of P or NGP or better in each topic, according to the following program of study.
