The Graduate Certificate in Gender Mainstreaming Policy and Analysis is an 18-unit course offered by the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. This course is available on a part time basis only.
It articulates with the 36-unit Graduate Diploma in Gender and Development and the 72-unit Master of Arts (Women's Studies) and the sequentially developed topics allow progression through the three awards.
Applicants must normally hold an approved degree or an equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution. However, the Dean (Education) may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, admit others who can show evidence of fitness for candidature.
Credit may be granted, on application, for comparable prior studies.
The course is designed to prepare students for a variety of careers where specialised knowledge is required for the integration of gender considerations into policy making, program/project design and implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
This course aims to provide students with a comprehensive knowledge of Gender Mainstreaming and Gender Analysis. Since 1995 Gender Mainstreaming, an international strategy to achieve gender equality in all aspects of society, has been adopted by many governments, local, national and international organisations in developing and developed countries, including Australia.
Gender Analysis is a foundational base for all economic and social development policy and development programs. The course also provides opportunities to apply this knowledge in simulated virtual learning environments designed to enhance work related learning and understanding of real-world workplace contexts.
The specialised skills the course offers in Gender Mainstreaming and Gender Analysis are applicable to both the Australian and the international context.
