To be read in conjunction with the program of study requirements for the degree in which you are enrolled:
A student may complete a major sequence of 36 units in Theology by completing two Year 1 topics (9 units), two Year 2 topics (9 units) and two Year 3 topics (9 units) plus two additional topics (9 units) from the Year 2 or Year 3 option topics listed in the program of study below.
Theology is not offered as an extended major or a minor.
Course aims
The Theology major aims to introduce students to Christian traditions and thought based on theology, biblical studies, church history, and Christian ethics while providing opportunities to explore the faith and its traditions in connection with other disciplines and within the broader context of Australian culture and society.
Learning outcomes
On completion of of the Theology Major students will be able to:
- analyse the foundational concepts of Christian faith and tradition
- propose connections between Christian traditions and other disciplines, in the context of contemporary society and in the light of contemporary discourses
- formulate clear and reasoned arguments, and compare differing positions involving Christian traditions and values in modern Australian culture and society
- develop, design and deliver effective presentations using relevant communication skills (drawing on a range of media).
