The Bachelor of Sport, Health and Physical Activity requires three years full-time (or the equivalent part-time). The course is offered by the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work.

Admission requirements

The minimum requirements for consideration for entry to all undergraduate courses are specified in detail in the University Entry Requirements.

Course aims

The course aims to:

  • provide students with an understanding of sport and physical activity policy frameworks and legal requirements
  • introduce students to the diversity across fields of sport and physical activity
  • establish the foundations for students to become effective professionals in, and advocates for, sport and physical activity
  • equip students with a wider knowledge base by combining the study of sport and physical activity with other areas including health and nutrition, tourism and business
  • provide students with an understanding of the significance of sport and physical activity within the context of a healthy lifestyle.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this course students will be able to:

  • work ethically and collectively with colleagues to achieve high quality, equitable sport and physical activity outcomes for the wider community
  • recognise the role of sport and physical activity within a contemporary healthy lifestyle
  • apply knowledge about how sport and physical activity is created in a range of settings
  • work both independently and collaboratively and focus on real-world applications of their knowledge
  • utilise various means to learn about individuals, their communities, and their social and cultural environments within sport and physical activity settings
  • demonstrate a deep, broad and critical understanding of the content and principles of sport and physical activity
  • display an understanding of the role of elite sporting environments, community sporting settings and community health-based physical activity within a contemporary healthy lifestyle
  • develop an appropriate range of sport and physical activity practices
  • motivate individuals to engage, learn, value and participate in a diverse range of sport and physical activity settings
  • promote the multiple benefits of a physically active lifestyle and encourage lifelong adherence to physically active and healthy living
  • recognise the significance of engaging in, and understanding, research within the discipline of sport and physical activity as a lifelong academic and educational tool
  • demonstrate a working knowledge and understanding of one or more fields of study including health and nutrition, tourism and business.

Program of study

To qualify for the Bachelor of Sport, Health and Physical Activity, a student must complete 108 units with a grade of P or NGP or better in each topic, according to the following program of study:

No more than 45 units of first year level topics may be included in the 108 units for the degree.
