The Bachelor of International Business (Wine, Spirits and Tourism) requires the completion of 3 years of full-time study (or the equivalent part-time. The course is offered by the College of Business, Government and Law.

Admission requirements

The minimum requirements for consideration for entry to all undergraduate courses are specified in detail in the University Entry Requirements.

Course aims

This course aims to:

  • Provide students with a broad-based understanding of the critical business aspects of the wine sector both domestically and internationally
  • Support development of knowledge and skills to undertake market analysis and make recommendations
  • Enable students to apply general theory, problem solving and analysis methods to the wine and wine tourism sector issues and formulate basic recommendations
  • Support development of competencies and capabilities for employability across a wide range of wine business tourism and stakeholder organisations.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Assess opportunities using a broad understanding of the varietals of wine grapes grown and wine styles produced in Australia and major international wine producing countries
  • Analyse and assess domestic and international wine markets and formulate appropriate market entry and communications strategies
  • Develop plans for business using understanding of the critical fundamental legal, financial, economic and strategic aspects of producing, exporting and retailing wines and spirits
  • Defend a range of approaches to branding and marketing wine and spirits domestically and internationally using sound principles
  • Assess the objective quality of wine and major spirits via sensory analysis and description
  • Explain international wine and spirits industry terminology
  • Explain principles and processes involved in growing wine grapes and wine making
  • Develop a wine tourism campaign

Program of study

To qualify for the Bachelor of International Business (Wine, Spirits and Tourism), a student must complete 108 units with a grade of P or NGP or better in each topic, according to the program of study below.  Not all topics necessarily are available in a given year.

Students must complete 108 units comprised of:

  • 90 units Core topics
  • 18 units of Option topics

BUSN1103  Legal Signposts in Wines and Spirits Business (4.5 units)
INNO2004  From Intuition to Insight: Validating Desirability, Feasibility and Viability (4.5 units)

And 4.5 units selected from:
