Legal Studies is not offered as an extended major.
This major aims to produce students who understand the role of justice and policy development and application in providing mechanisms for the development of a just and equitable society. It addresses justice issues in a number of different areas and allows students opportunities to develop skills and an understanding of a range of justice areas, including young people, gender issues, business, health, education, mediation and advocacy.
On completing this major in conjunction with their other Bachelor studies students will be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the way justice systems operate in contemporary societies, both in Australia and internationally. Those completing the topic Legal Writing and Research Skills will have further developed their written communication skills. All students will develop skills as independent learners and workers, as well as skills for group and team work.
Students will also have the opportunity to take a formal Work Integrate Learning topic. There are strong ties with community and government organisations, particularly in Adelaide's southern region.
