The Associate Degree of Business and Associate Degree of Business (Commerce) requires two years of full-time study (or the equivalent part-time).
The Associate Degree of Business and Associate Degree of Business (Commerce) are administered by the College of Business, Government and Law.
The Associate Degree of Business and Associate Degree of Business (Commerce) are offered only as an exit award for students currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of Commerce who are not able to complete that program.
Course aims
The Associate Degree of Business and Associate Degree of Business (Commerce) provide an introduction to the knowledge and skills required for professional, business-related careers in private and public enterprise as well as to the main knowledge bases of business and includes topics in accounting, finance, marketing, international business, management, entrepreneurship and human resource management. Each degree aims to provide students with knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes to facilitate entry into business-related careers.
Learning outcomes
At the conclusion of the two year Associate Degree students will have:
- an appreciation of the broad environment in which business operates
- an ability to contribute effectively to the operation of a business
- an ability apply analytical skills, relevant theory and logical thought to various decision making processes within a business
- skills to communicate effectively in a business environment, both verbally and in writing
- demonstrated commitment to ethical and socially responsible business practice
- apply specialist skills to analyse issues and develop appropriate reports or other documentation.
Program of study
To qualify for the Associate Degree of Business, a student must complete at least 72 units in the Bachelor of Business.
To qualify for the Associate Degree of Business (Commerce), a student must complete at least 72 units in the Bachelor of Commerce.
Of the 72 units, at least:
- 54 units must be BUSN topics; and
- 27 units must have been studied at level one; and
- 27 units must have been studied at level two or three.
