The Master of Educational Leadership and Management is a 72-unit program offered in China by the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work in conjunction with our partner institution Nankai University.
Admission requirements
Applicants must normally hold an approved four year Bachelor degree qualifying them to work in the field of education, or an equivalent qualification. Applicants who hold a three year degree qualifying them to work in the field of education must normally have a minimum of three years of relevant work experience.
Additionally, applicants must also:
- have passed the Band-4 English test administered by the Chinese Ministry of Education or have an equivalent English language competency;
- pass an entrance examination which will include material designed to test knowledge of broad educational leadership and management issues and English language competency. The content, administration and examination will be managed by Nankai University; and
- be citizens of the People’s Republic of China.
However, the Dean (Education) may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, admit others who can show evidence of fitness for candidature.
Course aims
The course aims to:
- critically discuss how leaders in the Education sector build human capacity to meet the current and future challenges of their environment
- investigate how an organisation’s people can be encouraged to become lifelong learners while contributing to the success of the organisation
- engage students in learning that integrates theory with practice, action with reflection, and questions with investigation.
Learning outcomes
Graduates of the course are expected to be able to:
- demonstrate a critical awareness of the complex forces impacting on Educational leadership and management in organisations
- develop a sound understanding and appreciation of current issues in leadership and management at state, national and international levels through debate, discussion and research
- exhibit an enhanced appreciation of forces and values impacting on policy development and implementation in education and training
- display significant professional skills and competencies that improve the capability of practising and potential managers to handle these issues in a professional, dynamic and innovative manner
- contribute to a raised standard of managerial performance within education and other human services.
Credit
Students will be granted 18 units of credit upon entry into the course on the basis of their prior qualifications and/or relevant work experience.
