The Graduate Diploma in Clinical Education is a 36-unit program offered by the College of Medicine and Public Health.
This articulated, multi-disciplinary program is designed to provide health professionals with advanced knowledge and skills to deliver clinical education in health service settings. This is an emergent specialty field of education characterised by a symbiotic relationship between the learner, an experienced clinical educator and the health service.
This course is suitable for educators in both clinical and academic settings. The Graduate Diploma in Clinical Education has topics in common with the masters program and students who hold either the graduate certificate or graduate diploma receive credit for related topics
Applicants must normally hold an approved degree or equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution, or the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education, or equivalent. However, the Dean (Education) may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, admit others who can show evidence of fitness for candidature.
The graduate diploma will provide health professionals with advanced knowledge and skills to deliver clinical education in health service settings. The course aims to provide health professionals with an understanding of foundational principles of symbiotic clinical education and the ability to demonstrate advanced and applied knowledge and skills in clinical education.
Knowledge
Graduates of the course are expected to have advanced knowledge relating to the theory, policy and practice of symbiotic clinical education within the health professions, universities and health services.

To qualify for the Graduate Diploma in Clinical Education, a student must complete 36 units with a grade of P or NGP or better in each topic, according to the program of study below.

HLED9101 Symbiotic Clinical Education for the Health Professions 1 (4.5 units)
HLED9102 Symbiotic Clinical Education for the Health Professions 2 (4.5 units)
HLED9103 Symbiotic Clinical Education for the Health Professions 3 (4.5 units)
HLED9104 Assessment of Learning for the Health Professions (4.5 units)
Students must select 18 units from the following option topics

HLED9108 Research Skills in Clinical Education (4.5 units)*

HLED9109 Advanced Clinical Skills Teaching & Standardised Patients (4.5 units)

HLED9115 Social Accountability in Health Professional Education (4.5 units)
or up to 13.5 units of postgraduate elective topics selected with the approval of the Course Coordinator, provided topic prerequisites are met.
*Students considering progression to the Master of Clinical Education by Researh must select this topic.
