SET stands for Student Evaluation of Teaching.
SETs are online surveys, containing 5-point scale and open ended (text response) questions, which evaluate and deliver feedback on a topics and teachers.
What's your experience been whilst studying with us? Let us know what is working and what is not. Your feedback is important to your teachers and the University and we encourage you to respond.
Your responses are completely confidential, and details of your individual responses are not released to staff. Your teacher will only see the aggregated results from students who respond and will not know who has or has not responded. Your topic coordinator and teaching staff use your feedback to help improve the experience for future students, and the University regularly reviews SET results as a way to monitor students’ experiences across the University.
Please remember: your feedback should be constructive and professionally worded. While SET responses are confidential and anonymised, they are read by real people, your educators, who value your input and use it to enhance your learning experience. We encourage you to share honest reflections, including areas for improvement, but please do so respectfully and professionally. Constructive criticism is welcome and essential for growth. Hurtful or disrespectful comments, however, do not contribute to meaningful change. Feedback that is racist, derogatory, offensive, or otherwise inappropriate is unacceptable.
It only takes a few minutes, and you could win one of ten $50 gift cards.
You can access the Student Evaluation of Teaching directly via FLO.
An invitation will be sent to your Flinders email account to let you know that there is a SET for you to fill out.
Your teachers will also let you know when they would like you to fill in a SET survey, and may ask you to complete the survey in class using your mobile phone/tablet/laptop.
When there is a SET survey to be filled out, you will also receive weekly reminder emails and one just before the survey closing date.
Your SET email will contain a link to either canvas.flinders.edu.au or qualtrics.flinders.edu.au. Both of these domains are official evaluation platforms used by Flinders. If you have concerns regarding the legitimacy of an email, please contact the SET Administration on (08) 8201 3929, or forward the email to set@flinders.edu.au.
You will be usually asked to evaluate the topic and your teachers in the one survey. Your responses are captured on a 5-point scale, with the rightmost response indicating the highest level of agreement.
Most surveys will be open for approximately six weeks, however, this may vary between individual topics.
Access to SET surveys is for approximately 30 minutes after entering the system. If you receive a ‘session time out’ message when submitting your survey, please contact the SET Admin team to check if your responses were recorded correctly.
If you have a large amount of feedback to enter into the comments section of your survey, you may consider composing it in Word or Notepad and copy & pasting it into the survey.
Yes. The SET survey is completely confidential.
Details of your individual response are not released. The report that is sent to your teacher only shows aggregated results such as frequency tables (i.e. number of students who gave a score of 5, 4, 3 etc.) and lists of comments. Your teacher does not even find out which students responded to the SET and which students did not.
Please be assured that the confidentiality of respondents is very important to Planning and Analytical Services and that your response will only ever be reported in an aggregated format.
Students can access summary SET results for their topics (plus the Topic Coordinator's feedback on those results) in FLO.
If you make a mistake in responding to a survey, please contact the SET admin team so that your response can be deleted and you can restart the survey.
If you cannot access the surveys that the email has pointed to, please do not contact teaching staff. Instead, contact the SET admin team so that the problem can be resolved.
