Topic description
This topic is available to students enrolled in other graduate awards with the approval of the course coordinator MPH.

The underpinning belief of this topic is that health promotion is an integral part of practice regardless of the work setting. It enables postgraduate students from a diverse range of work settings to critically review their practice and setting using health promotion philosophies, theoretical frameworks and concepts to justify and plan for integration of health promotion into practice.
Educational aims
This topic aims to provide an opportunity to explore critical foundation theories, concepts and models of health promotion and then use these to critique contemporary debates in health promotion, national health frameworks, and your practice, practice setting, values and activities.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic, students should be able to:

  • Examine critical foundation theories, models and concepts of health promotion to enable you to have a more sophisticated understanding of these theories, modes and concept.

  • Critique contemporary debates associated with health promotion contained in a national health strategy/ plan/ framework of interest to you using critical foundation theories, models and concepts of health promotion.

  • Explore a range health promotion strategies which are aligned to the three models of health promotion; and analyse and justify how you can further integrate and synthesise health promotion into an area of public health practice.
