Topic description
Advanced Public Law will provide you with an opportunity to enhance the knowledge of public law you developed in earlier topics, through a focused approach to an aspect or aspects of constitutional and/or administrative law.
Advanced Public Law will cover topical issues in the field, and may include comparative constitutional law; legal reform and constitutional amendment; constitutional human rights instruments; or challenges in Australian administrative law brought about by technological change.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:
- Provide students with an enhanced understanding of theoretical and practical issues in constitutional law and/or administrative law
- Provide students with the opportunity to recognise legal issues in public law and to research and provide appropriate responses to these
- Provide students with the opportunity to develop the skills of scholarly research, writing, and critical analysis
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
- Identify legal and theoretical issues in public law relevant to the topic focus
- Critically analyse current and historic issues in public law related to the topic focus
- Demonstrate, through guided and self-directed research, indepth knowledge of an aspect of public law
- Communicate effectively and appropriately
- Apply the appropriate legal conventions in their work, including proper citation method
