Topic description
This topic provides opportunities for students to analyse and synthesise the senior years’ curriculum. Using inquiry processes, students are supported to identify and develop concepts, skills and positive attitudes towards senior years teaching and learning. The topic is designed to engage students with the processes involved in planning, implementing and evaluating senior years teaching and learning programs. The topic emphasises the pre-service teachers' acquisition of subject specialisation disciplinary and pedagogical knowledge.
Educational aims
This topic is designed to:

  • Enhance student confidence, knowledge and skills in senior years learning and teaching.

  • Enable students to synthesise an appropriate teaching and learning program in for a subject specialisation in the senior years.

  • Enhance students' personal approach to senior years teaching based on their critical analysis of practical experience as well as in the light of a range of theoretical perspectives.
Expected learning outcomes
Upon completion of this topic pre-service teachers will:

  1. Plan, analyse and critique a balanced, sequential teaching and learning program in the senior years.

  2. Demonstrate knowledge of current research findings and methods related to the senior years of schooling

  3. Possess in-depth, current knowledge and an integrated understanding of the content, context and processes of learning and teaching in the senior years of schooling
