Course context
Students are required to undertake placements either 5 days 0-3 times per semester or up to 75 hours
Topic description
This topic helps to prepare students for entry into the teaching profession. Students will be placed for three one-week blocks or a minimum of 75 hours during their second year professional experiences. They will observe and work alongside registered teachers.
Educational aims
The aims of this topic are to:

  • understand the complex work of the teacher

  • observe and learn from practising teachers how to effectively interact with children

  • undertake some of the tasks of the teacher under the supervision and direction of a practicing teacher
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will have:

  • observed practising teachers at work and begun to develop an understanding of the complex work and roles of the teacher

  • practised interacting with children as a beginning professional

  • worked alongside a teacher and at their direction undertaken some supportive tasks
