Course rules 2021

The combined degrees program of Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Public Administration requires the completion of a minimum of 144 units of study.

All students enrolling for the first time in either degree will be given the option at enrolment of undertaking the combined degrees program, subject to their meeting the cut-off score and entry requirements for the other degree. 

Eligible students who decline the offer to take up the combined degrees program at enrolment and wish in a subsequent year to enrol in the combined degrees program will be required to apply to SATAC for admission to the other degree. In some cases these students may have to undertake more than 144 units to complete the requirements of the combined degrees program and they are encouraged to seek advice from the relevant course coordinator before applying. 

Students who commence but subsequently do not wish to complete the combined degrees program may be eligible to transfer to either the Bachelor of Business or the Bachelor of Public Administration program and to receive credit for some, or all, of the topics already completed.

Program of study

To qualify for the combined degrees of Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Public Administration degree, a student must complete the following program of study with a grade of P or NGP or better in each topic:

  • a Business component of 72 units for the Bachelor of Business as detailed below
  • a Public Administration component of 72 units for the Bachelor of Public Administration as detailed below
  • 144 units in total are to be completed.

Not all topics necessarily are available in a given year.

Bachelor of Business component

To qualify for the Bachelor of Business a student must complete 72 units* with a grade of P or better or NGP in each topic. This must include:

  • 45 units of core topics; and
  • a 27-unit specialisation in Marketing, Management, International Business and Innovation and Enterprise or a 45-unit specialisation for Human Resource Management, or if no specialisation is selected, 27 units of BUSN electives.

*Except for the Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management) component, which requires a total of 90 units.

  • a full 36-unit sequence in Public Policy (as stated in the course rules of the Bachelor of Arts), including five mandatory core topics - POLI1003 An Introduction to Democracy and Government, POLI1012 Introduction to Political Ideas and Public Policy, POLI2002Government Business and Society POLI 2011 Australian Public Policy: Applications, Issues and Dilemmas, and POLI3010 Advanced Perspectives on Public Policy, and
  • a full 36-unit sequence in Management, including three mandatory core topics - BUSN2038 Human Resource Management, BUSN2022 The Australian Economy, and BUSN3043 Governance, Sustainability and Ethics.

Electives may be selected from any offered by the University provided entry and course requirements are met.
