Aims

This course provides further study opportunities for graduates from disability, education, allied health and other related professions, seeking to upgrade their specialised education in positive behaviour support (PBS).

The course aims to:

  • Enable graduates to demonstrate critical appraisal and applied skills to enact evidence-based behaviour support practices in partnership with people with disability and other key stakeholders
  • Prepare graduates for leadership positions in supporting interdisciplinary teams in a positive behaviour support context

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course you will be able to:
1.
Enact evidence-based behaviour support practices that promote and protect a person’s human rights, aligning with current Australian legislation
2.
Conduct risk appraisal and be responsive to situations that present risk of harm for a person and others
3.
Conduct and critically interpret individualised assessment data to develop formulation informed by a functional and contextual understanding of a person’s behaviour
4.
Present assessment findings and compose targeted intervention plans using professional language that is accessible to stakeholders and respects a person’s rights, values and preferences
5.
Formulate and enact implementation plans and processes to monitor the fidelity of PBS practices in collaboration with key stakeholders

Student progression rules

Failure to complete the course within four consecutive semesters or the award of a grade of Fail (F) in the same topic on more than one occasion, may constitute prima facie evidence of unsatisfactory progress for the purposes of the University's Policy on Student Progress.
