The Employability Roadmap is designed for Flinders Medical Science students to develop their employability skills along the learning journey, to ensure graduates are work-ready and equipped with skills that industry expect. This guide is aligned to a four-year undergraduate Medical Science timeline and includes curriculum based topics, careers workshops, online resources and activities within the Flinders Future Skills Programs.

If you are not sure which area to head towards, then there are many vocational assessment tools out there to help you.
A brag file is a file used to keep evidence of your key achievements, ready to share with prospective employers. During a job interview, it might be used to support the claims you make and to make the interview more memorable with the use of visual cues. Capture your achievements in a Word document, portfolio, or journal, and refer and add to it regularly.
Generate networks, develop skills and gain referees through your volunteer experience.

Plan your job search: Do you plan to apply for graduate programs? (Recruitment can begin as early as the year before commencement). Or for immediate start positions? (Plan your job search strategies using the ‘Job Search Placement’).
Most recruitment for graduate roles is the year before commencement.
Wherever possible ensure you have signed up to job alerts from, or joined the talent community of, organisations of interest to you.
Regularly monitor your job search channels for graduate positions of interest throughout your final year.

Students in fourth year of the Bachelor of Medical Science (Laboratory Medicine) specialisation will undertake work integrated learning professional practice placements in a registered diagnostic laboratory from a list of metropolitan and regional South Australian options provided.
Students will work with others in a professional environment to acquire important knowledge, principles and gain competence according to standards set out for medical scientists.
