Do you want to boost your employability, participate in experiences that enhance your resume, build networks that will help you in the future and have genuine industry experience to draw from in future interviews? This guide is for you.

The Employability Roadmap is designed for Flinders Master of Public Health students to further develop their employability skills along the learning journey, to ensure graduates are work-ready and equipped with skills that industry expect. This guide is aligned to a 1.5-2 year postgraduate Public Health timeline and includes curriculum-based topics, careers resources and activities within the Flinders Future Skills Programs.

  • Consider all your study, life and working experiences so far and how these connect to the next steps in your career.
  • Perhaps you are working in the sector already, or aspiring towards a Public Health career, or have international experience, or are changing careers. You might be new to Flinders – or have studied here previously.

  • Job Boards such as Prosple and Grad Connection.
  • Consider an unpaid virtual internship through organisations such as The Forage and Prosple. For example, The ASHM (Australasian Society for HIV, Viral Hepatitis and Sexual Health Medicine) Public Health Virtual Experience Program.
  • Generate experience, networks, develop skills and gain referees through your volunteer experience.
    • Health, Caring and Medical Volunteering.

If you are already working in the field and wish to develop your experience whilst studying in your current employment, look for any projects you could get involved with, work shadowing/mentoring or secondments, consciously network with your colleagues and leaders, and keep an eye out for any professional development opportunities.
