Get ready for Uni

New students Get ready for Uni

There are a few things you can do before you start at Flinders University.

For example, did you know you can sort out your enrolment, ID card, and how to get to Flinders, all before classes start?

See below for information to help make starting university as seamless as possible.

Enrolment

Once you’ve accepted your offer to study at Flinders, you’re encouraged to enrol in topics and register for classes as soon as possible. This will help you secure a University timetable that works best for you.

You can complete the enrolment process online, from the comfort of your own home. Detailed information about how to enrol is available on the enrolment webpages and there are ‘how to’ videos available on MyFlinders.

If you need help or aren’t sure what to do next, Flinders staff are here to support you. You can submit a request for support online through flinders.edu.au/ask or for assistance over the phone call 1300 354 633 if you’re calling from Australia or +61 1300 354 633 if you’re calling from overseas (select option 2).

Student ID card

Once you have completed your enrolment, you can organise your student ID card.

You will need a student ID card to complete important university tasks such as borrowing from the library, sitting exams, and printing. You can also use your ID card to get student discount at participating businesses.

New students who are studying in Australia can organise their ID card online before classes start. Request an ID card by selecting ‘Order My ID Card’ through Okta. For more information see the student ID card webpage.

If you are a new student who is studying outside Australia, your host institution will provide you with a Flinders Student ID Card after your studies have commenced.

Online orientation program

Our online orientation topic in Flinders Learning Online (FLO) called Finding Your Way at Flinders, is designed to help set you up for success at University.  Find out more.

Textbooks

We recommend ordering your textbooks as soon as possible. Visit the textbooks page for more information about the textbooks you will need.

Key dates

There are important dates you need to be aware of, including:

  • enrolment deadlines
  • fee payments
  • census dates
  • semester dates

You can keep track of upcoming key dates using the online calendar.

Getting to Flinders

If you have classes on campus, there are several ways you can get to Flinders, including driving, cycling, or by public transport. We recommend planning your journey before week one, to avoid unnecessary stress. For more information about getting to Flinders campus locations, visit the campus pages:

  • Bedford Park
  • Sturt
  • Tonsley
  • Victoria Square

If you plan to drive to Bedford Park or Sturt, you will need to either purchase a vPermit for longer term parking or a casual parking session through CellOPark, our online parking system. For more information visit the parking webpage.

Please note: to help you get settled in at Flinders, there’s no charge for casual parking at Bedford Park and Sturt during O’Week.

Financial support and scholarships

Balancing work and study can often be stressful financially. To help you manage this, Flinders provides a range of options that can help provide financial support you while you study. This includes loans, grants and scholarships (noting scholarship applications generally close within the first two weeks of semester).

For more information about a range of options and resources that can help you manage your finances while studying please see the Financial Support and Scholarships webpage.

Accommodation

On-campus living (Flinders Living)

Experience the community and convenience of living on-campus. Flinders Living offers a five-minute walk to classes, a tight-knit family and fun extracurricular activities. There are plenty of reasons to live on campus as part of a safe, supportive and dynamic community of students. For more information, visit the Flinders Living website.

Off-campus living

Living off-campus is another option.  This includes renting a room in a share house or leasing a house or apartment through a real estate agent. Whatever option you choose, it’s important you understand any lease agreement before you sign it. Information about tenant rights and obligations is available on the Consumer and Business Services website.

International students

The International Student Services team offers a free accommodation service to help international students search for long-term accommodation. Visit the accommodation webpage for more information.
