Extended major - Bioinformatics

This extended major is phasing out and there is no further student intake.

To be read in conjunction with the program of study requirements for the course in which you are enrolled:

Extended Major - Bioinformatics - Year 1 topics

The following topics must be selected as part of the 36-unit First Year program:

BIOL1101  Evolution of Biological Diversity (4.5 units)
BIOL1102  Molecular Basis of Life (4.5 units)
COMP1102  Computer Programming 1 (4.5 units)

Plus one of:

CHEM1101 Chemical Structure and Bonding (4.5 units)
CHEM1201 General Chemistry (4.5 units)

Plus:

CHEM1202 Chemistry for the Life Sciences (4.5 units)

Students are also highly recommended to undertake:

MATH1121 Mathematics 1A (4.5 units) AND
MATH1122 Mathematics 1B (4.5 units)

OR

MATH1701 Mathematics Fundamentals A (4.5 units) AND
MATH1702 Mathematics Fundamentals B (4.5 units)

BIOL3762  Protein to Proteome (4.5 units)
BIOL3771  DNA to Genome (4.5 units)
COMP2741  Application Development (4.5 units)
STAT2700  Applied Statistics Laboratory (4.5 units)
Transition topic#

# Depending on the combination of topics you have passed or intend to take, you may need to enrol in either a 1.5 unit or 3 unit transition topic to complete the Extended Major. Enrolment in a transition topic will require the approval of the Extended Major Co-ordinator.
