The Bachelor of Media and Communication requires three years of full-time study, or the equivalent part-time.  The course is offered by the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences.

Admission requirements

The minimum requirements for consideration for entry to all undergraduate courses are specified in detail in the University Entry Requirements.

Course aims

This course aims to provide students with:

  • the knowledge and skills to be able to research, write, design and produce communication content for a range of media platforms
  • knowledge of business concepts relevant to media and communication practices
  • the ability to adapt written style for different audiences and purposes
  • research, analytical and problem solving skills
  • the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • knowledge of media and communication workplaces and their contexts
  • knowledge of the impact of globalisation on communication
  • knowledge of the practical skills in the production of digital, print and broadcast texts
  • knowledge of the value of ethical behaviour

Learning outcomes 

On completion of this degree, graduates will be able to:

  • research, write, design and publish in different media
  • demonstrate knowledge of the business elements of communication and media practices
  • evaluate critically the role of advertising, media and public relations in contemporary society, analyse their social effects and consequences, and use these to inform their own work
  • demonstrate knowledge of communication processes in organisations
  • critically analyse and produce a range of professional and journalistic genres
  • demonstrate knowledge of international and intercultural contexts within communication.

To qualify for the Bachelor of Media and Communication a student must complete 108 units, with a grade of P or NGP or better in each topic, according to the following program of study.
