The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) - Flexible Entry is an entry point to the University's other Bachelor of Engineering courses. Students complete one year of study in this course before transferring to the second year of any named Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) award. To graduate thus requires a total of four years of full-time study (or the equivalent part-time). The course is offered by the College of Science and Engineering.
Students who do not qualify but have completed SACE Stage 2 (Year 12) General Mathematics or SACE Stage 1 Mathematics should consider the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) – General Entry.
The minimum requirements for consideration for entry to all undergraduate courses are specified in detail in the University Entry Requirements.
Successful completion of either SACE Stage 2 (Year 12) Specialist Mathematics or Mathematical Methods or equivalent International Baccalaureate subjects is normally required for entry. Knowledge of SACE Stage 2 (Year 12) Physics is assumed.
Course aims and Learning outcomes
The course aims and learning outcomes are as for the specialised degree chosen at the end of Year 1.
Program of study
To qualify for a named Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree, a student must complete 144 units with a grade of P or NGP or better in each topic.
Core - Year 1 topics
31.5 units comprising:
ENGR1201 Electronics (4.5 units)
ENGR1401 Professional Skills (4.5 units)
ENGR1721 Engineering Programming (4.5 units)
ENGR1722 Engineering Physics and Materials (4.5 units)
ENGR1732 Engineering Mechanics (4.5 units)
MATH1121 Mathematics 1A (4.5 units)
MATH1122 Mathematics 1B (4.5 units)
Option - Year 1 topics
EASC1101 Earth and Environmental Science (4.5 units)
ENGR1711 Engineering Design (4.5 units)
MMED1005 How Your Body Works: Human Physiology and Structure (4.5 units)
Year 2 - 4 topics
Students will then transfer, with credit, to a Bachelor of Engineering (Specialisation)(Honours) course.
- For students to complete the Bachelor of Engineering (Biomedical)(Honours) or Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental)(Honours) in the standard duration, the prerequisite sequence must be started in the first year.
Students who wish to transfer to the Bachelor of Engineering (Biomedical)(Honours) should select MMED1005.
Students who wish to transfer to the Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental) (Honours) should select EASC1101.
Students who wish to transfer to any other Bachelor of Engineering (Specialisation)(Honours) should select ENGR1711.
- Students may apply to transfer to the Bachelor of Engineering (Software)(Honours) however credit will not be granted for all topics and completion within the standard duration is not guaranteed
- Some students, because of failures, credit or wishing to maintain a 75% load, may need to enrol in more than the normal 36 units to remain full-time (for example, for AusStudy or Visa purposes). While this award is normally 36 units in length, in some circumstances, with the permission of the Course Coordinator, up to an additional 13.5 units may be completed.
