Dear student,
I hope you are all keeping well as we move now into fully online teaching as part of what we need to do at this time to slow the spread and reduce the impact of coronavirus amongst our community.
Student Services and Facilities
If you are unsure where to go to for support, check out our Online Hub, and the Flinders Support Network.
The Hub will help you find answers to frequently asked questions and provides information on the ongoing changes and how they may affect you. Here you will find more information on support services, wellbeing and success, international student updates, and more.
Our Flinders Support Network advisors are on hand if you need them. This service is available to all students and I encourage you to please reach out if you would like to discuss any concerns or speak generally about how you’re feeling. It’s also the place where you can complete our survey so that we can better understand your needs. By completing the survey, you can request for an advisor to contact you by phone or email to provide more information about how our support services can help you. And don’t forget, your topic and course coordinators are providing regular updates on FLO and can also provide answers to specific learning-related questions.
We do still have facilities open for students on campus for those who need them, including computer facilities which are located at various locations, including additional computers near Flinders Connect.
SSAF
I am pleased to let you know that the University will not charge students a Student Services and Amenities Fee for any topic enrolments in the first half of the year.
Any fee applied to this point will be credited back to your account automatically. Whilst international students do not pay SSAF separately, they will also have the equivalent of the SSAF fee credited back to them. The University will get in touch with further information as we work through the refund processes in coming weeks.
Parking
In relation to car parking, the University will reimburse the balance of parking permits from Monday, 30 March for those students who are no longer coming to campus by car. If you want the balance of this semester’s or this year’s permit refunded please email parking@flinders.edu.au before 30 April 2020 – requests after this date will not be accepted.
Do remember that if you cancel your permit you’ll need to make sure you have a valid parking session when coming back to campus – visit our parking webpage for more options.
Academic matters
Thank you to the many students who contacted me directly or contacted their representatives in Colleges or FUSA about possible changes to grading systems this semester. Senior academic staff are reviewing this feedback as a matter of urgency and I will make an announcement this week.
COVID-19: Understand the Epidemiology
For those of you who are interested in the science behind the coronavirus, this Thursday the Vice President and Executive Dean, Professor Jonathan Craig from the College of Medicine and Public Health will host an all staff and all student forum on the epidemiology of the Coronavirus. I invite you to join online this Thursday, 2 April between 1pm-2pm (SA time).
Stay safe all, and if you can, please reach out to others to make sure they are OK and feeling connected.
