Dear student
On behalf of everyone at Flinders University, I look forward to welcoming you and all your fellow students – new and continuing – to the start of Semester Two.
With South Australia being put into a COVID-19 lockdown last Tuesday evening we have been working to ensure we have a smooth start to the semester, as much as possible, despite the restrictions. I am aware that many are also in locations outside SA that may be facing challenges and I hope that things improve for all of us.
From next week, all teaching and learning activity will be online. The few activities that cannot be done in this way, such as clinical skills teaching labs, will be rescheduled. It is important that you check your FLO topic sites in case there are changes in how topics are administered.
As soon as we are able, we will begin to transition back our on-campus key learning activities prioritising clinical skills teaching and labs. We’ll make sure we keep you updated.
I am delighted that many new students watched the Course and College Welcome sessions online this week, and if you haven’t yet I encourage you to tune in as soon as you can. We have plenty of orientation activities online - visit the Orientation Planner to get off to a great start! An Online Welcome Hub will be available for the first week of semester from 26-30 July between 11am and 1pm. It offers an opportunity to ask questions and seek support from our Student Ambassadors and Student Experience Team. Everyone is welcome, whether you are a commencing or continuing student.
For our continuing students Work Integrated Learning activities will continue where possible although this relies on the ability of our placement providers and industry partners to provide an appropriate learning environment. Please be aware that some providers, particularly in health and aged care, are requiring students to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, so do check your topic FLO site and student email regularly for updates. If you have any questions about Work Integrated Learning please contact your College WIL Support Team.
If you are yet to complete your enrolment and require help, Flinders Connect is available to assist you. Call the enrolment support team on 1300 354 633 (select option 2) or submit a request for support online. Remember, the last day to enrol (for most Semester Two topics) is Friday 6 August.
Flinders offers a range of other support services whether you are just starting with us or are a continuing student:
You might have noticed that Flinders is presenting a bold new face of being Fearless. I’m so pleased that you’re joining us this semester and fearlessly pursuing your future. These are fast changing times, and I will provide further updates as the COVID-19 situation evolves. Until then stay well and please contact us if you have any COVID-19 questions.
I wish you all the best for a safe and successful semester.
