COVID-19 and the library

COVID-19 information COVID-19 and the library

Last updated 11 January

The Library continues to adhere to the current COVID-19 State Government guidelines to help our students and staff remain safe. Most resources, including book, journals, and streaming videos, are available online and can be accessed from home without needing to visit a campus Library. Assistance from Library staff is available over the phone and online through live chat and email, from 9am to 5pm on weekdays.

All levels of Central Library and Sturt Library are open 24/7 to current students and staff via swipe card access, and Medical Library study spaces are available 24/7 to students and staff with a current SAHLN/FMC ID card.

QR codes for COVID Safe check-in (using for the mySA GOV app) are available at library entrances. Hand sanitiser is available from dispensers throughout Library spaces.

  • A safe place to play and develop technical skills using FLO tools such as discussion forums and Collaborate.
  • Available to all students via the ‘Additional’ Tab in FLO.

Library consultation service - Online content for topics

  • Assistance with finding the most accessible and student friendly online content/resources for your topic.
  • Tailored for each College discipline.

Essential readings and textbooks available online

Though the Library physical collections are closed our Readings Service remains active. We will attempt to source scans where needed from other Libraries and ask for your patience and understanding during this time. We have an “Online content for your topic” service (Service One- Education), that can work with you to try and find student friendly online alternatives to print only Readings.

  • Ask for assistance with creating Reading lists via ServiceOne or enrol in a workshop via the iEnrol website.
  • Textbook advice is now available to students via the course information webpage.

Embedding information literacy skills in your topic

We continue to partner with academic staff on embedding information literacy into topics and have adapted our services to align with the move to a fully online teaching environment. This includes:

  • Embedding Information literacy information into your FLO page
  • Interactive learning activities
  • Pre-recorded sessions
  • Monitoring of discussion boards
  • Lecture recordings from previous years
  • Standalone self-paced FLO topics available to all students – developing basic and intermediate information literacy skills

Note: Sessions in classes/lectures using collaborate are no longer offered as a core service, if there are specific requirements where students may benefit from having a Librarian attend a class, please contact us.
